Summary

The present review examines the main editorial steps in a

scientific journal generally and in EMERGENCIAS more particularly.

A number of parameters of EMERGENCIAS’ editorial

activity over the last four years (2003-2006) are analysed. Over that

period 466 submissions were received, but only 20% of them were

originally submitted for the “Originals” category. The overall acceptance

index over those four years was 73%, the reviewer assignation

time 26 days, the reviewer response time 42 days, the time to a final

decision 55 days and the time to publication of the accepted submissions

102 days. The trends of all these parameters over the four-year

period have been analysed. The main conclusion is that areas for

improvement can be detected in the editorial process of EMERGENCIAS,

and particularly so in the areas relating to editorial times and

delays.
