Summary

The progressive ageing of the population, the increased survival

of subjects with chronic disorders and the implementation of the

welfare society have been the cause of an increased demand

for emergency care for patients in their last few days of life. The aim of

the present review is to present a series of multidisciplinary recommendations

based on medical and nursing scientific knowledge, communication

skills and ethical and logistic aspects for providing integral care

to the patient who is expected to die in the Emergency Department.
